skulls, snails and puppy dog tails

When my meds are off {which they currently are}, I have a hard time relaxing my brain to the point of sleep.

My Matty? He is snoozing the second his head hits the pillow.  'Twas the case last night as Matt was fast asleep on the couch. I was bored and sleepless so I began perusing Old Navy's online selection of clothes for our big boys, Mason and Jack.

This, friends, is what I kept running across:

Skulls. That Represent Death. On Boys Clothing.

Why???

What is the appeal of putting a symbol of death on a piece of fabric a child is wearing?

I don't get it.

And it's not just Old Navy. Look what I found on Target's site:

Not getting this trend, and CERTAINLY not putting this trend on my boys!

Are you as taken aback as I am about this symbol all over boy's fashion? Or could you care less?   What's your take on the matter?

I am so glad it's not just me who feels this way!!! I too am a member of the "Just Say No to Skulls" club. The even make BABY clothes with them - I just don't get it.

Well, I am usually on board with these parental views but for some reason this one does not bother me. Maybe because I grew up seeing a tattoo of skulls and cross bones on my Navy dad. Idk. But I actually like them. However I will say, neither of my boys own a piece of clothing with a skull on them....

I think I'd let a (hypothetical) son own 1 piece of skull clothing, if he wanted. I have a friend with twin 4-year-old girls, and they wear a cute little tee with a 'princess skull' on it. The irony appeals to me. On the other hand, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy these, and I'd be concerned if my kid ONLY wanted to wear skulls.

I do my best to allow my children to express themselves though fashion in age appropriate ways but negative designs, words, phrases, and images are outside the boundaries. There is nothing positive or cute about the symbols of death. Just my two cents.

(On a side note, my deepest sympathies on the med issues. It's a horrible place to be and I hope they're smoothed out soon. XO)

I am 100% with you. Skulls are all over! I can't stand it. None of my kids have anything with skulls. I remember teaching Sunday school and a fashionable little boy (with a mom much more fashionable than I) walked in with little Van-like shoes covered in skulls. I was...flabbergasted. I find it disturbing. I don't even really like pirate stuff, it's all covered with the same thing.
